Activision Blizzard is apparently set to announce a huge number of job cuts later this week, reports Bloomberg.
Although the exact number of cuts isn’t known, it’s speculated that the number is likely to be in the hundreds following a difficult period for Activision Blizzard Inc.
Shares dropped to 2.5 percent last Friday, with one unidentified source saying the plan is to restructure in order to boost the company’s profits.
Bloomberg reports that analysts are now expecting Activision’s sales to drop by another 2 percent this year.
It’s yet another event in the gaming industry that has concerned professionals. Last year, Telltale Games closed its doors, leading to more than 200 people losing their jobs.
Social media was used to help those who’d suffered from the loss, with lots of studios welcoming ex-Telltale employees. Hopefully the same thing will happen for those affected at Activision Blizzard.
The news about alleged Activision/Blizzard layoffs next week could mean hundreds of great game makers will be without work. We can’t have that.
