After 19 Years, Counter-Strike Now Has Characters

In the nearly 20 years since the world saw its first Counter-Strike game, the series has moved on and evolved in almost every way imaginable. The one thing that Counter-Strike games have never had though is, of course, characters. Until now.

The very boring generic character skins we’ve always seen in CS games are now a thing of the past, as Valve has confirmed that actual bonafide characters are headed into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

On the Counter-Strike website, Valve writes: “Introducing Operation Shattered Web. For the first time in CS:GO, bring your favorite character into battle with all-new equippable agents. Earn rewards featuring the new agents, all-new weapon collections, stickers, graffiti, and more through a new battle pass format.”

That’s right, CS:GO is getting its own battle pass too.

“For the first time in CS:GO, unlock all-new T and CT-sided characters equippable on any map,” continues the website. “All-new CT Operators and T Agents are available as mission progress rewards.

“Complete missions and earn Stars to unlock them and equip them for deployment. Or equip the default Local Agent or Operator to use the pre-existing map-based characters.”

With 22 characters available, each one will be graded in terms of how rare they are, with Valve adopting names like “Superior” and “Exceptional” to show just how average or special they might be.

The rarest character skins are known as Master Agents, and include special voice lines and animations to set you apart from the rest of the rabble out there.

Shattered Web is the first new CS:GO operation in two years, and will include new weapon collections, new sticker collections and – of course – new missions. Check out more about Shattered Web on the website right here.
