Apex Legends Cheaters Will Soon Be Matched Against Each Other

The developers behind Apex Legends have been pretty vocal in their Reddit updates about the problem of cheaters in the game, and it looks like we’ll soon see a big change to the battle royale.

Respawn community manager Jayfresh_Respawn posted the usual dev update to Reddit recently, but added in some new information about how the team will be handling recognised cheaters.

“We know reports of cheaters, especially in Ranked, have been a hot topic so this week we also wanted to provide a little visibility into some of the work that’s been going on behind the scenes to combat cheating,” writes Jayfresh.

According to the post, the following will be implemented into the game to help resolve the problem:

“Using machine learning to create behavior models that detect and auto ban cheaters.

“Requiring TFA in certain regions on high risk accounts.

“Improving detection that identifies and bans new spam accounts before they are used.

“Ongoing work to adapt to new cheats.

“Matchmaking that matches detected cheaters and spammers together.

“Investigating how people party up for matches. Even if you are not specifically using a cheat, partying up with cheaters is still cheating.

“Increasing resources whether that be people or tech.”

Of course, one of these things has stood out to Apex players more than the others, and that’s the mechanic of matching detected cheaters and spammers together.

On the Reddit post, players are celebrating the upcoming move as an ingenious way of taking cheaters out of the game.

Offering up a potential reason as to why an outright ban is less effective than Respawn’s upcoming method, one user commented: “If you ban [cheaters] immediately they’re likely to create a new account. If they’re shadow banned it’s one less hacker on the live servers, at least until they realize they’re being bamboozled.”

“Oh my god that makes so much sense. Let the cheaters all kill each other,” commented another Redditor.

According to Jayspawn, the next game patch is coming next week, which “will discuss the details of the fixes coming with it in the patch notes then.”

What do you think about the proposed plan for Apex Legends?
