Assassin’s Creed Mirage Release Date – Everything We Know

With Assassin’s Creed Mirage leaping into action later this year, let’s take a look at when it will be released and what we can expect from the latest instalment.

The thirteenth major instalment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise releases later this year and will follow the story of Basim Ibn Ishaq. Set in Baghdad, Assassin’s Creed Mirage follows his journey as he joins the Order.

The Story

Although we haven’t received the full story yet, we do know where Mirage fits into the franchise chronologically. For those up to date with the franchise, this one will take place 100 years before the Assassin’s Brotherhood is formed and around 300 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed 1.

What we do know is that the modern-themes that have been present in the recent games will not have a starring role. The Animus that is used to access descendant’s pasts is taking a back seat and instead the story will focus on Basim himself.

“We do not have present-day [segments], nor too much science-fiction stuff,” the art director Jean-Luc Sala said in an interview.“It’s clear from the beginning of the game and for a bit at the end that someone is entering the Animus, and this is an Animus experience.

This game is not just disconnected from that feature…But it’s just not the purpose of this game. It’s focused on a young person, [Basim], and his story. That’s why we want to go straight into that.”

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Release Date

Update – Assassin’s Creed Mirage will release on October 12, 2023

We can expect to see Assassin’s Creed Mirage release later this year. Although there are rumours it will launch in August, this has not been confirmed by Ubisoft.

We will make sure to update this page when a release date has been confirmed.

However, when it does release, it will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Back to its roots

It is no secret that more recent additions to the Assassin’s Creed franchise have steered away from its roots. With more direct and combative approaches to gameplay, it has lost its stealth and ‘hidden one’ features.

However, Mirage will be going back to the Assassin roots by focusing on stealth gameplay, agile movement and fast-paced parkour.

“Basim is definitely not Eivor (the protagonist from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla),” Sala explains. “You have to pay attention to that, what you do, how you play. If you are hit, you are hit. You are going to regret it really, really soon. If you start to fight with big, chunky enemies, thinking this is like Valhalla, you are going to die really fast.

You need to just take your time, look around…It’s more a bird of prey playing with their prey approach. Take your time, look around, be smart, move quickly, kill, disappear, think again, look around. So it’s really that: You kill and vanish, then come back again. If you are static, it’s no good.”

Additionally, for those who were overwhelmed with the map sizes in AC Origins and Odyssey to name a few, you’re in luck. Ubisoft has confirmed Mirage’s map will be sized-down similar to the maps in Revelations. This will allow for more features to be condensed into the area without having to traverse large distances with nothing to do.
