Bad News: Nintendo Confirms Switch Exchange Deal Is Fake

If you’ve been active on Reddit over the last few weeks, then you may have seen a rumour floating around about a Nintendo Switch exchange programme, where you can get yourself a brand new console with a ‘better battery-life’.

Users claimed Nintendo officials agreed to swap out their current Switch for a new mode, as long as they purchased the console after the upgrade was announced on July 17. One YouTuber even faked a recording of a Nintendo rep confirming this deal over the phone.

Well, I’m sorry to tell you that the news was just a rumour, and Nintendo has come out and issued a statement regarding the devices and their ability to be exchanged.

Speaking to The Verve, Nintendo said: “We do not have a Nintendo Switch exchange program. We always want players to enjoy their Nintendo Switch systems, and if anything ever gets in the way of that, we encourage them to visit https://support.nintendo.com for support, or to contact our consumer support team.

So if you’re upset about the longevity of the current battery life on your console, I’m afraid the only thing you can do to curb this is to maybe invest in an external charging device, or just resign yourself to the fact that the hand-held option may need you to be near a plug socket if you intend on some long play-time.

Or, even more better yet – sell your model online and buy yourself the new, better battery-life version.
