Battlefield 6 Is ‘Coming Next Year,’ Says EA

It’s good news for Battlefield fans, as EA has seemingly confirmed that a 2021 release is on the cards for Battlefield VI. The news comes via VGC, who shared a statement from an EA spokesperson on the matter.

The statement reads as follows: “The team at DICE is working on the standalone Battlefield V update releasing this summer, and continuing their work on delivering Community Games,

“While the studio’s vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week’s The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community. We’re looking forward to hearing players’ stories for both games, for years to come.

“Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021.”

Previously, EA had suggested that Battlefield 6 wouldn’t be dropping until possibly much later. Blake Jorgensen, EA CFO, said in October 2019 that the Battlefield 6 release date would come during EA’s fiscal 2022. That would put it at anywhere from April 2021 to March 2022. Now it seems as though 2021 is looking more likely than 2022.

This launch window was reiterated during the company’s most-recent earnings call earlier this year.

Battlefield 5 launched back in 2018, receiving mixed reception from the players. The PlayStation 4 version of the game currently has a Metacritic score of 73, but has a very poor User Score of just 2.3.

The game’s description reads as follows: “Enter mankind’s greatest conflict with Battlefield™ V as the series goes back to its roots in a never-before-seen portrayal of World War 2. Experience all-out multiplayer with your squad in the vast Grand Operations and the cooperative Combined Arms, or take on single player War Stories. As you fight in epic, unexpected locations across the globe, enjoy the richest, most immersive Battlefield yet. Now also includes Firestorm – Battle Royale, reimagined for Battlefield.”
