All’s been quiet on The Elder Scrolls 6 front for a while now, but it seems as though movement might finally be happening over at Bethesda. A Reddit user recently spotted a series of job vacancies over at the company, and it looks pretty likely that they’re roles for TES 6.
User BongRippaTheSkeptic shared their findings to Reddit, which include jobs listings for a Gameplay Programmer and a Video Editor.
The Gameplay Programmer role is particularly telling, as the job description specifically mentions an RPG game. Right now, there’s only two RPGs in the works at the company that we know of: the space RPG, Starfield, and TES 6.
“Bethesda Game Studios is looking for talented programmers to join our team that is pushing the bleeding-edge of RPG development for the PC and consoles,” reads the description.
It later adds: “Collaborate on the implementation of new gameplay features: player and characters’ behaviors, combat and powers mechanics, user interface, etc.”
As noted by the Redditor, it’s pretty late in the day for Bethesda to be hiring for its next big space RPG, Starfield, which means it’s likely the role is for The Elder Scrolls 6.
As for the Video Editor position, the Reddit user has a very interesting theory on what that role might be for.
They speculated: “I couldn’t see TES 6 having many cutscenes (if at all, I could be entirely wrong there though). So I wonder if we’ll be seeing a new Starfield trailer in the coming months?”
We don’t know too much about the next TES game, though it’s rumoured that the game will be entitled ‘Redfall.’
In an interview with IGN last year, Bethesda’s Todd Howard spoke about the development of TES 6 and its relationship to Skyrim.
Howard explained: “The gap in between [the two games] is obviously going to be long, it already is,” he said.
“On one hand, I think it’s good to miss things. I think that makes people come to it with really fresh eyes. And I think when they eventually see the game and what we have in mind, they’ll understand the gap more in terms of technology and what we want it to do.
“The one thing [the gap] does is people are still playing Skyrim, it’s still one of the best-selling games. I know people joke about it online, but it’s one of the best-selling games on Switch. Anything we put it out on, it becomes a hit game. And they love it, they still play it, it’s almost infinitely playable, all of the mods and everything like that. And we’re 8 years post-Skyrim.
“It lets us know going into Elder Scrolls 6 that this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least, at least.”
Hopefully we’ll get our first look at the TES 6 sometime this year.
