British Red Cross Launches Appeal To Support Humanitarian Response In Ukraine

The British Red Cross has launched an appeal as it aims to support the humanitarian support effort in Ukraine.

As Russia continues its ongoing assault on Ukraine, the British Red Cross is launching an emergency fundraising appeal in response. Russia’s war effort threatens to bring essential services to a standstill, as well as a huge loss of life. As such, urgent action is required to help support the people of Ukraine.

The priority of the British Red Cross is to provide access to clean water, health care, and psychosocial support. The organisation has already responded to some of these issues on the ground in Ukraine. It has operated inside the country during the last eight years of tension between Ukraine and Russia. However, it now needs renewed support as the fighting intensifies.

Commenting on the situation, Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, said: “We are deeply concerned for the safety of communities given the recent intensification of fighting. Our volunteers and staff will continue to work closely with affected communities, to help them cover their basic needs and be prepared during these challenging times.

“We are focused on being adaptable, flexible, and responsive to whatever happens next. In the meantime, we remind that civilians and infrastructure must be spared at all times.”

Adding to those comments, Luke Tredget, Head of Emergencies at the British Red Cross, said: “The heightened uncertainty is taking a huge toll on people. Ensuring the delivery of essential services is our main priority right now. As our teams are sheltering throughout the country, we reiterate that humanitarian actors must continue to have access to communities, and that people and essential services are respected at all times.”
