If you’re a PlayStation 4 owner then you might want to cancel your weekend plans, as it’s been confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be free to play this weekend.
The official Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha will be taking place from Friday September 18th to Sunday September 20th, meaning you could – and should – dive into the action right now.
“With just under two months to go before the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the sequel to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, ALL Playstation 4 owners will be able to get their first taste of the next generation of global combat this weekend by participating in the game’s Alpha,” said Activision in a press release.”
The playable alpha is available to download right now from the Modern Warfare or Warzone menus. Once installed, players will simply need to “select the Alpha menu blade to experience their first taste of deniable operations in several game modes across four new maps.”
According to Activision, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed and Domination will return, while players can enjoy new game mode Combined Arms: Domination, a new 12v12, vehicle-inclusive twist on traditional Domination across two larger maps.
The Alpha period will conclude on September 20, 6pm BST. If you took part, you’ll bag yourself an exclusive Calling Card.
For those not on PS4, an early access beta will be playable before the game’s launch. PlayStation users who pre-order the game will get access to the beta before the rest of the world, giving an extra incentive to pick up the title on PS4.
Along with the Alpha, PlayStation 4 gamers who’ve pre-ordered a digital copy of the game will be able to play the beta from October 8 – 9. The PS4 Open Beta will run from October 10-12.
Xbox One and PC Early Access Beta will start October 15 – 16. All platforms will be able to play the beta October 17-19.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is due to release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 13 2020. Next-gen versions of the game will also be available.
