Call of Duty: Warzone is only hours old but it’s already smashing records with some eye-wateringly massive player numbers. The Battle Royale mode for Modern Warfare (which is available for all, and not just those who own MW) finally dropped on March 10, and it’s smashed expectations.
According to the official Call of Duty social media channels, “over 6 million” players dropped into Warzone in its first 24 hours.
To put that into perspective, the launch of 2019’s Battle Royale phenomenon Apex Legends saw 2.5 million players in its first 24 hours. The BR game which arguably kick-started the genre, Fortnite, saw over 1 million in the same time period.
Call of Duty: Warzone is the latest addition to the CoD line-up and the first Battle Royale we’ve seen from the team since Blackout (barring CoD Mobile), so naturally, it’s the current go-to game for top streamers.
So far, players are absolutely loving the new mode and everything it has to offer. The game supports a whopping 150 players per match, which is causing the best kind of chaos for CoD players.
Gamers have been sharing their best tips and tricks to help secure you a win, including Twitter’s Call of Duty Warzone News.
The player shared the following advice for new players: “Here’s some Call of Duty #Warzone Tips and Tricks
“- You can switch back in legendary weapons after picking up a loadout
“- Gas masks prevent damage from the gas for 12 seconds
“- Try to keep $4,500 spare at all times so you can buy back a squadmate
“- Stick together!”
On the Activision blog, the company writes: “Call of Duty: Warzone is a new free-to-play, massive combat experience from the world of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare®. And we mean massive: Warzone delivers a huge gaming experience for up to 150 players in the incredibly expansive map of Verdansk.”
