Capcom Arcade Stadium Is The Third Most Popular Game On Steam, Technically

If you can believe it, Capcom Arcade Stadium is currently sitting as the third most popular game on the Steam charts right now. Except, it’s all because of bots.

As reported by PC Gamer, for at least a little while, the classic arcade emulator was the third most played game on Steam, according to SteamDB and Steam Charts. At the time of PC Gamer’s report, the game had 476,923 players supposedly playing the game.

But a majority of them are likely to be bots, according to dataminer and SteamDB creator Pavel Djundik. Since Capcom Arcade Stadium’s launch in May of this year, it’s averaged about 20 players a month. It’s completely free, and only includes one game from the get go. The rest you have to pay for. So why the sudden influx of bots, especially when the game has been free the entire time?

Bots will essentially wait around looking for games to go free. But they only care if the game has trading cards, virtual cards players can earn on Steam. And Capcom Arcade Stadium only just received trading cards, leading to bots swarming the game.

That makes a lot more sense than nearly 500,000 people deciding that 1943 – The Battle of Midway is the most essential game of the year. If you are a 1943 – The Battle of Midway fan, unfortunately you’ll be alone in your love of the game. But hey, don’t let that stop you from playing what you love.
