Leatherface might be back!

Could A Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game Be In Development?

Hit horror film Texas Chainsaw Massacre seems set to be transformed into a new game after fans unearth clues online.

Social media users have sniffed out a clue about Gun Interactive’s next project as reported in NME. When you head to www.LeatherfaceTheGame.com you are instantly redirected to Gun Interactive’s website. The website includes the following text: “Gun is a concept design studio & publisher with a passion for horror.”

Who’s Leatherface?

Leatherface burst into the cultural consciousness in 1974, in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. The character is a terrifying cannibalistic killer, who gets his gruesome moniker from wearing a mask made of human skin.

The original 70s horror film has seen several sequels, remakes and adaptations. Most recently, we saw Leatherface in a prequel to the original movie, which came out in 2017. The character is iconic – also appearing in several different comic book runs.

If this mysterious web address clue is anything to go by, it seems as if Gun Interactive is planning on adapting the character yet again. If they do, it won’t be the first time Leatherface has appeared in a video game. He was the main playable character in the 1983 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game. Leatherface has also appeared in Mortal Kombat X, the 2016 survival horror game Dead by Daylight, and even as a playable skin in Call of Duty Warzone.

Gun Interactive’s future franchise

If Gun Interactive is developing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, it won’t be the first time they’ve adapted a horror classic. Its horror survival game, Friday the 13th, is a reimagining of the 1980 summer camp slasher film.

Recently, Kane Hodder, who did voice acting on Gun Interactive’s Friday the 13th game, teased that they were developing a new horror franchise. In an interview with Slash ‘N Cast, a horror YouTube channel, the actor said that he was working with the studio again. And Hodder went on to add “I can’t talk about it yet, but you’ll see”. Mysterious!
