It looks like CD Projekt Red is in hot water after reports that hackers managed to gain access to the company’s servers.

The Poland-based company issued a statement on Monday this week, citing that its security systems had been compromised. The hackers also provided CDPR with a ransom note that claims the culprits have managed to bag various pieces of source code for the likes of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 and other important HR documents and data sets [via VGC].

CD Projekt Red published its statement on Twitter, which addresses both fans of the studio and the hackers at large:

“An unidentified actor gained unauthorised access to our internal network, collected certain data belonging to CD Projekt capital group, and left a ransom note the content of which we release to the public.

We will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of compromised data. We are taking necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular by approaching any parties that may be affected due to the breach”

Alongside this statement is a copy of the aforementioned ransom note, in the form of a text document screenshot. The letter reads “your have been EPICALLY pwned! !”, which has really upset my spell checker. The note acts as a threat to CDPR, stating that unless they are contacted within 48 hours, the information will be sold online and leaked to journalists.

CDPR has also insisted that they don’t believe data pertaining to players was present on the servers. Never the less, since some of the information was HR-related, there’s bound to be some personal details amongst the hacker’s findings, in particular, those who work for the company.

The Cyberpunk creators later followed up its initial Tweet, reaching out to ex-employees and stating that they would “recommend caution”. Hopefully, no one’s safety and security is compromised as a result of this incident.
