The 2018 roguelike-Metroidvania game Dead Cells will be getting a 10-episode animated series sometime in 2024. Here’s what we know so far.
Dead Cells is one of the most successful 2D Metroidvania games of all time so it is perhaps no secret that it is destined for an animated adaptation. Luckily, the creators of several of the game’s trailers are now in charge of doing just that with the series airing sometime next year.
Dead Cells Is Getting An Animated Series
This news comes courtesy of a very short trailer made by Bobbypills, a French animation studio. The studio also in charge of the series is also known for their work producing the Far Cry series and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.
It will also be co-produced by French anime streaming service, Animation Digital Network where it will initially air before being released worldwide.
The Dead Cells animated series will consist of 10 episodes that will each be 7-10 minutes long.
What To Expect
According to the trailer’s description, the series will take place on “a cursed island that has been racked by a strange plague.
“After the island’s foolish king develops a remedy that ends up turning the population into monstrous creatures, prophecies depicting a flame-headed hero who will kill the crazy King begin to appear. As it so happens, this beheaded hero is real, but saving a kingdom isn’t on his schedule and he just wants to be left alone.”
Other than that, we don’t know much else – not even the official title. However, the synopsis hints at the series staying relatively true to the game.
For its developers Motion Twin, they promise constant updates in the upcoming months.
