After months of fans crying out for Donkey Kong Country, Nintendo has revealed the iconic Super Nintendo game will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
If you’re not familiar with Nintendo Switch Online, it’s a subscription service which lets you play your games online, while also giving you access to a library of over 60 classic NES and SNES games.
If you’re into your retro classics, Switch Online is a worthwhile service as it includes some of the best games of all time, like Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and more. It’s also just a fraction of the price of subscription services like Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus, costing just $19.99 USD a year.
If you’re keen to delve back into the 1994 classic Donkey Kong adventure, then it’ll be available to play from July 15. New additions to the line up also include SNES game Natsume Championship Wrestling, and the NES game, The Immortal.
If you never played Donkey Kong Country as a child, the game’s description reads as follows: “In 1994, at the dawn of 32-bit consoles, one game blew away the competition with its pre-rendered 3D graphics, cartoon-quality animation and atmospheric music – on the 16-bit Super Nintendo!
“Donkey Kong Country breathed new life into the character of Donkey Kong, and introduced gamers to Diddy Kong, Cranky Kong, and bad guys the Kremlings.
“Join DK and Diddy on a quest to recover their stolen banana hoard. Traverse more than 30 challenging levels, take a ride on animal buddies and survive the madcap mine cart sequences. You’d be bananas not to play Donkey Kong Country!”
Honestly, it’s a classic, and a very welcome new addition to the Nintendo Switch Online collection! Check out the original trailer for the game below (Warning, may induce nostalgia).
