Epic Game Store Giveaways – Confirmed Titles, Rumours and Everything Else

Another year, another Epic Game Store giveaway. Like many others, the bulk of games I own on Epic Game Store are the result of its annual selection of free titles. It’s a bit like an advent calendar, where the only thing you need to provide is your personal information. Having said that, Epic has given away some pretty big titles in the past, and this year looks set to be no different.

So what’s the deal? Essentially, Epic gives away a free game everyday in the last two weeks of December. These games range from reasonably big – although not that recent – triple a titles, to smaller, critically-acclaimed indie games. The deal is, you have to claim that game within 24-hours, or you have missed out on your chance. I personally set a daily reminder on my Apple Watch that pings me to check it.

Once the game is claimed, it’s yours to keep. While there’s an argument to be made against having a million different game stores on your PC, two weeks of free games sure is a great trade off. Especially as you’ll also get a free £10 off vouchers to spend when you claim your first game, how great!

Games given away so far

The bad news is, you’ve already missed out on these titles. However, I thought it best to list them, for posterity, or something like that. It also gives you an indication of what types of games Epic gives away during these promotions.

  • December 16th – Shenmue 3
  • December 17th – Justin Timberlake Rock Your Body add-on for FUSER
  • December 18th – Remnant: From the Ashes
  • December 19th – The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
  • December 20th – Loop Hero
  • December 21st – Second Extinction

Bit of a mixed bag so far, the Justin Timberlake Fuser DLC drop is an interesting one, but Remnant: From The Ashes, The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter and Loop Hero are all solid games. Shenmue 3? Not so much.

What’s coming next?

As with any leak or rumour, take this with a pinch of salt. According to R/GamingLeaksAndRumours, there are going to be some pretty big games offered for free. Don’t go expecting any major releases from this year on there, but there are some great games being hinted at.

  • December 22nd – HUMANKIND
  • December 23rd –  Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden
  • December 24th – Vampyr
  • December 25th – Pathfinder: Kingmaker
  • December 26th – Prey
  • December 27th – New to EGS
  • December 28th – New to EGS
  • December 29th – New to EGS
  • December 30th – New to EGS

That’s a pretty solid lineup of games over the next week. Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden is a solid tactical stealth game that features a very likable cast of characters. Vampyr is also a solid title, with a great story and excellent world-building. The new to Epic Game Store titles could be anything, although I’d expect Epic to save the biggest titles for last.

We’ll update this on a daily basis as well, so you can see the latest rumours, and what the current free game is for any given day.
