Epic Games’ Fortnite is pretty much synonymous with professional gaming and the esports scene, but it’s being claimed that the company doesn’t really want to be associated with that world.
Speaking on The Official Podcast, hosts Jackson, Andrew, Charlie, Kaya and Noel discuss Epic Games and its involvement in esports, with one of the hosts claiming an insider at the company has confessed to them that Epic has no interest in the pro gaming scene.
“I can’t say from who,” he said. “But I’ve talked to people at Epic specifically…[they don’t] want the language ‘pro gaming’ associated with them.”
Check it out at around 57:00 in the video below.
It’s not information that’s been verified by anyone at Epic, but it’s definitely a curious thing to suggest considering just how much money Epic has been giving away during its many, many esports tournaments.
The comment comes following a discussion about Fortnite’s controversial mechs, which have created some seriously irritating balance issues in the game.
The mechs are one of the latest additions to Fortnite, and thanks to overwhelmingly negative response from players, Epic Games will be looking in to how to change the new mechanic.
Over onĀ Reddit, people have been quick to not only uninstall the game over the Brutes, which are incredibly OP and swoop in to destroy players willy-nilly.
Back in July of this year, the first everĀ FortniteĀ World Cup took place, with several people taking away the big-money prizes for the solos competition.
16-year-old Kyle āBughaā Giersdorf managed to steal first place and nab himself a cool $3 million USD along the way.
Fellow professional players Nyhrox and Aqua also scored big during the World Cup, ending up with $1.5 million after taking first place in the duos championship.
15-year-old Jaden Ashman, also known as Wolfiez, placed second with his teammate during duos, and will be splitting $2.25 million with his partner in crime.
Sure, Epic is a billion-dollar company, but why invest so much money into esports if it’s not something you want associated with your brand…?
Something here doesn’t add up to me…
