Former PlayStation Boss Wishes The PS Vita Had More Support

Former Sony Computer Entertainment America boss, Jack Tretton wishes that the PlayStation Vita had received more support.

When the PS Vita launched in 2011, it was not only the successor to the PSP but it was also seen as Sony’s handheld console that could truly rival the Nintendo 3DS. In truth, the PS Vita should have easily competed with the 3DS in my opinion.

The PS Vita had some absolutely fantastic titles from Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Tearaway, and Persona 4 Golden, to name but a few. It was also backwards compatible for a variety of classic PS1 and PSP titles, as well as a home for a plethora of indie darlings.

So, it’s a shame that the PS Vita wasn’t the success it could have been, and many believe that its failure was down to Sony seemingly abandoning its beloved handheld device. However, it seems that Jack Tretton shares our pain.

The PS Vita has a true gem!

While speaking in an interview with Axios, Tretton shared his disappointment in the lack of support for the PS Vita. “There were certainly technologies that I thought were good but just didn’t have the level of support they needed,” said Tretton, also referring to the PSVR.

So, you come up with new technology to introduce to the industry and the consumers. But do you have the marketing budget to really drive the message? Do you have the developer support dollars to incent them to develop games to support this initiative? And sometimes you would birth technology and hope that it caught on.
