Four & Five Player Squads Are Being Tested In Call Of Duty: Warzone

At the moment, the newly-launched Call of Duty: Warzone Battle Royale, a 150 player, free-to-play game is set up to be played in teams of three. There are two mode available (one which supports respawning and one which doesn’t), but the whole game is pretty much built around the three-team set-up. That might not be the case forever though – at least not according to developer Infinity Ward.

Infinity Ward’s co-head Patrick Kelly recently sat down with USA Today [via Gamerant] to talk about the newly-launched Warzone, and the topic of squad number was raised. Interestingly, it seems as though the three-member limitation might not be sticking around forever.

“I can tell you we have four and five-player squads we are already playing with,” Kelly told USA Today.

“But we want[ed] to launch with something we know works really well and we have tested to the nines and then play around with these different team sizes.”

Although the game works on the assumption that you’re in a three-person squad, you can dive in solo if you like a challenge. As Kelly continued:

“Let’s say you show up alone and just want to play solo … or if you show up with a buddy, you just check the box that says, ‘Don’t fill my squad,’ and you will just be a duo.”

Of course, with the Call of Duty: Warzone modes currently only being set-up to accommodate teams of three, you will be at a pretty major disadvantage (and that’s putting it mildly!)

Kelly also spoke about the chances of larger teams being added in the future, but there’s no mention of having specific lobbies for each size.

When exactly we’ll be able to play in these larger teams remains to be seen, but hey, Warzone has only been live for a matter of days. I’m sure there’s lots of exciting updates on the horizon for the latest Battle Royale game on the block.
