Gamers Aren’t Happy About Spider-Man PS4 Exclusivity In Marvel’s Avengers

Naturally the news upset a lot of Marvel fans – something the Crystal Dynamics game really doesn’t need, considering pre-launch reception of the game has been mixed so far.

While Sony players are thrilled to see Peter Parker in another PS4 adventure, Xbox One and PC gamers have branded the move as “anti-consumer,” criticising both publisher Square Enix and Sony for the deal.

On Twitter, one user questioned the value of the move, writing: “Wow another anti consumer move, what’s the point of this, no ones gonna buy a PS4 because a character in a game can only be unlocked there.”

Another user branded the move as “dirty,” admitting they were on board with Marvel’s Avengers until this point.

Not everyone agreed with the controversy though, with some gamers admitting they like the exclusives as they “keep the incentive to stay within certain consoles.”

Over on the official Sony blog, Crystal Dynamic’s associate art director Jeff Adams writes of Spider-Man’s inclusion on PS4: “When Spider-Man comes to our stable of heroes, we’ll be marking his debut with an in-game event that will introduce him to the wider world of Marvel’s Avengers.

“The event is comprised of a series of unique challenges for the hero to take on, testing his abilities, and yielding some exciting results.  And like the rest of our heroes in Marvel’s Avengers, we will offer multiple cosmetic outfits and gameplay experience options, so you can make your vision of the wall crawler a reality. “

Spider-Man will be added to Marvel’s Avengers PS4 as free DLC at some point in 2021. The game itself lands on store shelves in September 2020.
