Games Industry Puts Out Call To Support Ukraine Following Russian Invasion

Game developers across the industry are calling for support for Ukraine after the Russian invasion of the country.

Yesterday, February 24, Russia launched a full scale invasion against Ukraine. And so game developers have called for support for Ukraine. “We’re a peaceful nation, and in all the years since we gained our independence, we’ve never attacked or threatened anyone,” wrote Ukrainian developer Frogwares, who made Sherlock Holmes games and The Sinking City. “Because of this situation, our work will be impacted and our lives can be destroyed.”

Sengi Games, another Ukrainian developer, wrote through the Twitter account for its game The Serpent Rogue saying “Dear friends, as some of you may know, we are based in Ukraine, today our country was attacked by Russia. They declared a War and currently attacking our citizens. We will not able to answer or help you that much with the game atm. Love and peace for you all!”

Publisher Raw Fury also released a statement saying it stands with Ukraine, and that it will be donating to the Ukrainian Red Cross. And publisher 11 bit studios released a similar statement.

In terms of major companies, Destiny developer Bungie said that for the first 48 hours of their Game2Give drive they would donate 100% of the proceeds to “humanitarian aid efforts in response to ongoing conflict.” And lead gameplay designer at Remedy Sergey Mohov also shared links on how you can support Ukraine at this time.

Indie developer Brandon Sheffield is also putting together a bundle on the game distribution platform itch.io in order to support both Ukraine and trans children in Texas.
