Take this with a pinch of salt, but it looks like Gears Of War 6 won’t launch until 2024. A recent Xbox Game Cast podcast featured Rand al Thor, stated the game will likely launch in 2024 or 2025. This is likely because developer The Coalition is already working on another title, which is being kept tinder wraps.
According to Thor, The Coalition is currently working on a smaller new title, which will likely launch some time in 2023. The developer recently worked alongside Epic Games to develop the Matrix Awakens tech demo which launched last week. The tech demo is a great indication of what Gears Of War 6 could look like. The Coalition has always pushed the technical performance of their games to exceptional levels.
Rumours about Gears Of War 6 have been flying about for some time. A few years ago, one of the game’s art directors discussed how The Handmaid’s Tale had influenced the visual look of the game. While it is unlikely that the show’s story will influence the next game, but it’s distinct visual look and symbolism might drive its direction.
Gears 5 was a huge success for Microsoft and The Coalition, going down as one of the biggest launches in the series to date. While neither has confirmed the existence of Gears Of War 6, it seems more than likely that the team intends to follow up on its success. The ending of that game’s campaign also implied The Coalition’s intentions to develop a sequel, so we’ll have to see what happens there.
Elsewhere, the developer behind the System Shock 2 Remake has confirmed that the game will launch in 2022. It was initially revealed back in July 2016, and the game has been pushed back several times since then.
