Santa Monica Studio’s iconic and basically flawless title, God of War, is celebrating its one year anniversary and its decided to do it in the best way possible – by thanking us fans.
Over on the PlayStation blog, Head of Studio at Santa Monica Studio, Shannon Studstill writes about the whirlwind ride it’s been for the developers, referencing the pretty much endless Game of the Year awards the title won, and how grateful the studio is for its fans.
The studio is so grateful in fact, that from Wednesday you’ll be able to pick up some PlayStation Network freebies, including avatars and a theme, all for the best price of all – free!
“In honor of you, our fans, we’re starting a week-long celebration of the one-year anniversary of this God of War. I’m very happy to indulge you with a small token of our appreciation,” writes Studstill.
“We’ve crafted a fantastic God of War Anniversary character PS4 avatar set that will be available free this Wednesday, and a PS4 dynamic theme available right now that will bring you back to serenity with Kratos and Atreus in the Lake of Nine. They’ll both be free at PlayStation Store (search God of War), whether you own the game or not.”
Just look how lovely that boat scene looks as a PS4 background! Iconic.

Unfortunately, at the same time as the announcement, God of War director Cory Barlog confirmed to fans the worst news possible – there’s no DLC plans for the game.
I’m not too surprised, but it’s always nice to have hope. Maybe there’s no DLC planned because God of War 2 is next on the list…? Fingers crossed, people!
