Square Enix believes that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy did not meet its expectations in terms of sales. Despite receiving solid reviews.
As reported by Eurogamer, in a recently published Q3 financial results briefing for Square Enix, director Yosuke Matsuda said: “The HD Games sub-segment launched Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in Q3. Despite strong reviews, the game’s sales on launch undershot our initial expectations.”
However, some optimism was shared in the fact that sales of Guardians of the Galaxy have increased over time. “Sales initiatives that we kicked off in November 2021 and continued into the new year have resulted in sales growth,” said Matsuda. “We intend to work to continue to expand sales to make up for the title’s slow start.”
Some people are hard to please
Sometimes big publishers can be exceedingly difficult to please, despite games having solid sales and reviews. It’s also worth keeping in mind that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was released in October 2021, which is plonked smack, bang in Broketober season.
I am sure that many gamers did not want to add to their piles of shame but also with so many big titles released in such a brief period of time, it can be impossible to keep up financially. This probably explains why sales for Guardians of the Galaxy have increased over time.
We love guardians of the galaxy

I purchased Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy myself, and it’s a fun game for sure. In our review of Guardians of the Galaxy, we said: “If you’re looking for a game that’s brimming with heart in both story and gameplay, this is one for you.”
