According to a recent rumour, legendary developer Hideo Kojima’s next video game might be an Xbox exclusive.
The rumour comes courtesy of the ever-present Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat, who has a proven track record with leaks thanks to his personal sources in the industry.
Grubb claims that while his sources state that any potential deal is yet to be finalised, Kojima will be making an Xbox exclusive title. It’s supposedly part of Microsoft’s continued attempts to crack the Japanese gaming market.
Ever since the original Xbox released, Microsoft has been desperate to win over at least a decent portion of the Japanese gaming market, which is mainly dominated by PlayStation and Nintendo.
“I cannot confirm if Xbox closed the deal yet, but my understanding is that Kojima is the focus of a Microsoft plan to leverage Japanese talent,” said Grubb for VentureBeat.
If this report is true, getting Kojima to sign an exclusive deal certainly shouldn’t do Microsoft any harm, but will it be enough to win over the Japanese market?
As always with all unconfirmed rumour and speculation, we must take it with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
