The upcoming freelancer mode for Hitman 3 has been delayed, but a new map is coming out sooner than expected.
Yesterday (May 5), developer IO Interactive released a roadmap for May, where it was announced that the freelancer mode is being delayed.
“We see HITMAN 3: Freelancer as the next evolution of Hitman and an entirely new way to engage with the world and characters that we’ve built into the World of Assassination over the last 7 years. We’ve concluded the main campaign with HITMAN 3, but the world has so much more to offer and we didn’t feel as though we’d quite achieved everything we wanted to with Agent 47 in this trilogy.“
Going off from this, IO Interactive explains that this mode is “quite expansive and involving.” And because it wants to let players “dive deeper into what a Hitman game can be,” the developer decided to delay the mode.
Though there have apparently been a number of rounds of internal testing. And some core community players have been able to give their feedback too.
A specific date wasn’t given for when we can expect to see the freelancer mode arrive in Hitman 3. But the post did say that it is expected to release in the second half of 2022. And that “it will be worth the wait.“
how about that new map?
However, thankfully it’s not all bad news. IO Interactive also brought forward the release date of the Ambrose Island map to July 2022. Content plans have been adjusted in general, as shown in the image you can see above. But plenty of new content is on the way. In particular, there are more featured contracts than there normally would be.

The next patch that will introduce all of this new content, aside from Ambrose Island, arrives on May 24. And PC RayTracing arrives alongside it. If you’re curious about the overall plans for 2022, IO Interactive spoke about what it has in store at the start of the year.
