The new Mario Golf: Super Rush game has elements similar to a traditional RPG, according to Digital Trends.

It’s needless to say that Mario Golf isn’t a PGA Tour game. Not only does the series contain some wacky mechanics and colourful aesthetic, but it also brings a sense of whimsy to real-life sport.
Put it this way, Mario fans who have zero interest in golf will likely still play Mario Golf: Super Rush. However, this fantasy sports sim also has something up its sleeve for RPG fans, as the game features a levelling system, elaborate cutscenes and characters.

Of course, Mario Golf is far from being a JRPG. However, its new story mode is packed full of surprising mechanics. Not only does the game have six different worlds to explore, but there’s also NPCs and boss fights. The fact that you can also play as your Mii character also makes Mario Golf feel more like an actual RPG experience.
If you’re into equipment management, you can also swap your Mii’s clothing and clubs, again, like in a role-playing game.

While Mario Golf does seem to be rich with lore and RPG mechanics, it’s worth noting that these aren’t weaved into the entire experience. If you’re simply looking for an alternative golf experience, then you can still enjoy the game’s other modes. However, it is nice to know that Mario Golf caters to such a wide audience. Or at least it’ll resonate with fans of Super Mario RPG.
Who knows, perhaps Mario Golf’s diverse nature will make the game a resounding success. Alongside the game’s RPG adventure mode is also a multiplayer experience, one that looks to be embracing frantic gameplay and chaotic tactics.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is set to release on the 25th of June 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
