Max Payne Remakes Are In Development By Rockstar And Remedy

Remedy Entertainment has announced it is remaking the first two Max Payne games for modern systems.

The remakes will be developed as part of a new deal between Remedy and Rockstar Games, the Max Payne publisher. They will be developed as a single title for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S under Remedy’s propriety Northlight game engine.

Rockstar will be financing the game’s budget, on a scale that matches a standard AAA Remedy production. So expect it to be finely polished and full of flair.

The last game in the series happened way back in 2012 with the very excellent Max Payne 3. Remedy did not work on that title, with it being developed in-house by Rockstar. It’s currently unknown if these remakes will take inspiration from that, or if they’ll stay true to the originals. While the third game stuck closely to the style of the original, there were some big deviations.

Remedy currently has a few projects under its wing right now. It recently worked on the singleplayer campaign for CrossfireX and a remaster of Alan Wake. A sequel to Alan Wake is also in development. It appears as though the success of Control has finally let Remedy just do whatever it wants, and you know what – good on ‘em.

Max Payne remakes will launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at some point in the future. Are you excited about these remakes? Let us know on Twitter!
