‘Minecraft 2’ Has Been Trending On Twitter And No-One Knows Why

‘Minecraft 2’ has been trending on Twitter over the past day or so, and no-one’s quite sure why.

Sure we’ve seen a lot of “2” news recently, with rumours of an Overwatch 2, the delay of The Last of Us Part 2 and Fortnite Chapter 2, but Minecraft 2? Yeah, the internet is just as baffled as you are.

People have been flooding Twitter with confusion over the trending topic, and of course, the results are hilarious.

One user shared a screenshot of a pretty funny “leak” that suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and that Minecraft 2 is also coming to the platform.

Another shared this wonderfully terrifying image of Minecraft characters in a somewhat more realistic setting…

I’ll be seeing this in my nightmares, so thanks for that.

And for this next tweet…yeah, I’ll just leave this one here:

So why exactly is everyone talking about Minecraft 2? Are we about to get a sequel to the most iconic game of its generation? Well…no. To be honest, a sequel to Minecraft would be pretty bizarre.

The game is now 10 years old and it’s never been better than it is right now, thanks to a range of awesome updates. There’s new content planned for the future, and it doesn’t seem like anyone’s ready to say goodbye to Minecraft 1 just yet.

Speaking of new content, just last month Mojang announced that Minecraft’s Nether will be seeing some pretty huge changes, and it’s gotten the fanbase more excited than ever.

Announced during MINECON 2019, it seems the Nether will be the next region to get an overhaul which will add new biomes and a whole new civilisation into the mix. Hooray!

Over on the Minecraft website, Mojang confirms the upcoming additions include three new Biomes: Soulsand Valley, Netherwart Forest Red and Netherwart Forest Blue; a new mob known as the Piglins; Piglin Beasts and a new block called the Target Block.

The Nether update is expected to go live at some point in 2020.
