It’s pretty rare that microtransactions are ever a good thing, but it seems that there’s never been a more valid reason to hand over your cash in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Activision and Infinity Ward have announced that the proceeds from the latest purchasable for Modern Warfare will go straight to providing relief for those affected by the devastating fires taking place in Australia.
Sharing the news on social media, Infinity Ward writes: “As part of our efforts to help provide relief toward the devastating bushfires in Australia, we’re donating 100% of Activision’s net proceeds from each purchase of the ‘Outback’ pack, which we’ve re-named the Outback Relief pack, across all platforms through January 31st…
“From everyone at Infinity Ward, Call of Duty and Activision, thank you for your consideration. Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected.”
For those who’ve already bought themselves the pack, Infinity Ward promises the purchase will still count toward donation.
The Outback Relief DLC pack costs around $20 USD of CoD points, and features some cosmetic goodies. These include a new operator skin, a blueprint for a legendary sniper rifle, a charm shaped like a Koala bear, and a unique finishing move, plus some other goodies.
Unfortunately, if you’re just after one of the items you’ll be out of luck, as they’re only available in the bundle form. But hey, at least it’s for a good cause!
The pack – and the donation incentive – is available on all platforms up until January 31 2020.
The bushfires in Australia have been raging for a few months now, and the true extent of the damage is still unknown. Lives have been lost, homes have been destroyed, and Australian wildlife have suffered seemingly irreparably. For more information on the disasters, check out the BBC here.
