When producers can make a really good zombie movie or show, they really have struck the big time.
Take for instance incredible movies like 28 Days Later which led to one of the best horror franchises around and shows like The Walking Dead, which is currently in its ninth season.
Now Netflix wants in on the action and is launching its own series to rival the latter.
Black Summer will explore what life would be like in the early stages of a zombie outbreak.
The official synopsis reads:
“Set in the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, BLACK SUMMER stars Jaime King as Rose, a mother torn from her daughter who embarks upon a harrowing journey to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, these complete strangers must find the strength they need to fight their way back to loved ones. But in order for Rose and her team to brave this hostile new world, they will need to make brutal decisions to contend with zombies – and each other.”
Jodi Binstock is one of the producers for the series, she’s told Mandy: “Black Summer is referred to in Z Nation as the summer where everything went to hell, so that is where Black Summer picks up.
“This show is not tongue-in-cheek, it’s very, very serious: it’s as if the zombie apocalypse really happened in 2018 and explores what that would be for all of us. It’s a very unique style that I think people will really respond to.
“It’s only told from the point of view of the characters – we don’t learn anything that the characters don’t and it’s fantastically shot. The dynamics of the way that they have crafted the storytelling is very cinematic and I think people will really respond to it.”
Black Summer will premiere on Netflix on April 11
