There’s no two ways about it: Netflix has thought long and hard about how to bring The Witcher to the silver screen/our living rooms, and so far everything we’ve seen is looking pretty spectacular.

It’s definitely been a journey for the team working their magic behind the scenes though, as the IP isn’t just adored by the millions of fans of the CD Projekt Red video games, but also millions of fans of the original novels.
During a panel for The Witcher at San Diego Comic Con 2019 earlier this month, the cast and crew opened up about the process of creating the series, giving us some interesting snippets of information.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed that a total of 207 people were considered for the role of Geralt, but that her eyes had always been on Henry Cavill for the role.
Speaking at the panel, Cavill explained his love for the video games, saying: “I’m a big gamer. I played the games a lot, many many hours, and Warcraft. But there was something about Geralt that struck a chord with me. he’s not your average hero. He’s a very real type person who won’t treat everyone perfectly, but he’s also really a hero.”
It’s now been confirmed multiple times that the show will follow the original source material – the books – as opposed to the CD Projekt Red games.
The series’ official description reads: “The witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”

Netflix has yet to reveal an official release date for the series, but it’s expected to be launching on the streaming platform before the end of the year.
