Crystal Dynamics, developer of the Tomb Raider series, has confirmed that new games are coming, and they’ll blend elements of the originals with the rebooted trilogy.
Throughout 2021 Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics will be celebrating all things Tomb Raider for the series’ 25th anniversary.
In a community update video, we were treated to lots of exciting Tomb Raider news to celebrare this momentous year.
Community & Social Media Manager Neha Nair spoke about her love for the series and how each game in the franchise will be celebrated, beginning with the 1996 original.
Crystal Dynamics franchise executive producer Dallas Dickenson and game director Will Kerslake also appeared in the video, sharing news on the future of Lara Croft.
Kerslake revealed that at least one new game is coming, and the aim will be to blend elements of the original titles with the rebooted trilogy from 2013.
While no reveals are planned for a new game (at least yet), Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics will celebrate the year with “nostalgic content” and more before working on the new game.
“We envision the future of Tomb Raider unfolding after [the rebooted trilogy], telling stories that build upon both the breadth of Core Design and Crystal Dynamics’ games, looking to unify these timelines,” said Kerslake.
“With Tomb Raider’s extensive history, this is not an easy task, and we ask for patience as we go through the process.”
How exactly the new Tomb Raider will blend the old with the new remains to be seen, but hey, at least we know Lara’s adventures aren’t yet over!
