It’s been confirmed by Nintendo that the much-loved Dr. Mario will be making an appearance in a mobile game later this year.
As revealed on the Japanese website for the company, Nintendo writes [translated]: “Together with Nintendo and LINE, NHN Entertainment, which has released and operated various online and mobile games, will take part in the development and operation of Dr. Mario World.”
This is great news for fans of the original game, which launched way back in 1990. If you never got to experience the joy that was Dr. Mario, the game was pretty different to other Mario releases of the time, being an action puzzle title that came out on the NES and Game Boy.
Not too much is known about the mobile Dr. Mario World yet, but we do know it’s going to be released on iOS and Android devices in summer 2019.
If “summer 2019” and “Nintendo mobile” is ringing a bell, it’s probably because the upcoming Mario Kart Tour, a.k.a Mario Kart for mobile, has been delayed to a similar date.
Looks like summer is going to be a pretty busy period for Mario and mobile gaming fans!
Although people might have preferred a full Dr. Mario for the Nintendo Switch, this puzzle game is 100% suited to your mobile phone! In fact, I can’t think of a more perfect Mario game for mobile.

The character of Doctor Mario is currently a fan-favourite in the Switch’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so it makes a lot of sense for Nintendo to ride his popularity wave.
Are you excited for all the Nintendo games headed to iOS and Android?
