Peter Molyneux, creator of Fable, is working on, “the first ever Blockchain Business Sim.”
The man who is best known for making false promises is now working on a game built on the blockchain, a digital ledger that has a lot in common with Molyneux.
It’s called Legacy, and is being developed by Molyneux’s studio 22cans. ““Legacy is a creative entrepreneur’s dream come true, an opportunity for players to build their very own business, designing their very own products from a huge array of possibilities as they create a business empire the likes of which the world has never seen!” reads a blog post announcing the blockchain business sim.
The game will see players owning Land NFTs, which allow players to, “start [their] own in-game blockchain business association.” If you’re unfamiliar with NFTs, it stands for non-fungible token. It’s a record of a digital item that is stored on the blockchain. And it is impossible to make a copy of on the blockchain. Though if the NFT is just a PNG, nothing is stopping you from right clicking and saving it.
The post also says that, “You will also be able to play Legacy, while earning and owning your gameplay.” As part of this, 22cans is making LegacyCoin, a cryptocurrency which will be the basis of Legacy’s economy.
Outside of being on the blockchain, Legacy doesn’t sound like it will be different from any other business sim. A video on the game’s website shows that you can customise your own products. But it isn’t clear why anyone would want to buy any of these products. Whether this game actually comes to fruition, remains to be seen.
