Play As The Devil & Cheat Your Way To Victory In ‘Rogue Lords’

Let’s be honest, most people play roguelikes for the challenge. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that most players would be averse to using cheats. However, in Rogue Lords, you play as the most roguish being in existence and cheating is the name of the game.

In case it wasn’t obvious, Rogue Lords is a turn-based roguelike that follows the devil’s diabolic path to redemption. Here’s a back of the box synopsis, courtesy of the game’s Steam page:

“After being defeated many moons ago, you have finally returned with your most trusted disciples to take revenge on those wretched Demon Hunters. Play run after run and collect ancient artefacts to take back your power and reclaim your rightful place.

Build your team from famous evil geniuses like Dracula, the Headless Horseman and Bloody Mary. Upgrade their skills and create synergies to dispose of the mortals who dare to stand in your way. Unlock new spells, collect souls, make the right choices in events and use your powers to crush the forces of good!”

If you’re a fan of the likes of Darkest Dungeon or Iratus: Lord of the Dead, then you’ll likely feel right at home with Rogue Lord.

Being able to cheat and mechanically manipulate situations adds an interesting twist to the format, one that adds an extra layer of complexity to the genre. However, it’s needless to say that the game’s “devil mode” comes at a price, one that requires sacrificing your diabolic essence.

While Rogue Lord does bear resemblance to other 2D roguelikes, there’s something particularly charming about its art style.

In a way, it almost looks like something you’d find on the box of an old Castlevania game, which makes sense considering it has vampires, ghosts and the devil himself. If you’re a fan of classic horror and roguelike mechanics, then you’ll probably want to pick this one up when it launches sometime in 2021.
