It turns out you can have a peaceful encounter with a lynel in Breath of the Wild by giving them space and making it clear you don’t want to pick a fight.
Keen fans of Breath of the Wild have discovered that not all fearsome lynels want to fight. While some around Hyrule Castle are fierce no matter what you do, some lynels can be peaceful.

As TheGamer reported, fans have worked out a few simple steps to keeping things chill with the lynels of Hyrule:
- Stay your weapons
- Respect their personal space
- Don’t target them for attack
While this may not be the first time players have had peaceful interactions with lynels, Reddit user u/splat152 recently documented and shared this type of encounter.
Lynel lore
Lynels are one of the most dangerous and formidable creatures of Hyrule. A centaur-like monster, they are resistant to elemental attacks and a seriously tough nut to crack. Learning how to interact with lynels peacefully is a real boon to players of Breath of the Wild. The Hyrule Compendium describes them like this:
“These fearsome monsters have lived in Hyrule since ancient times. They possess intense intelligence, resilience, and strength, making them among the most dangerous monsters in all the land. This is compounded by the fact that they have a natural resistance to all elements. You would be wise to challenge a Lynel only if you’re very well prepared.”
