Players Are To Boycott Pokemon Go Due To Pandemic Rollback

Last week we heard that Pokemon Go fans were concerned over Niantic’s rollback of pandemic accessibility mechanics. Now, players are planning on boycotting the game in protest of the move [via ScreenRant].

Organised using the hashtag “PokemonNoDay” on Twitter, the Pokemon Go boycott involves putting the game aside for the day. Of course, this means players won’t be participating in their usual daily rituals, like catching Pokemon and sending friends gifts. Here’s what the protests digital flyer has to say about the event:

“No raids, no trades, no guys, certainly buy nothing in the shop. Spend your Pokemon time doing something else. Go outside without a phone in your hand. Catch up on an old hobby and has not gotten any attention. Discover some new games to play. Please copy and paste this and share it in other Pokemon communities and social media. Let’s see if we can get some traction with this and crater Naintic’s server load for a day,”

In response to the proposed boycott, many players agreed with the protests incentive. However, some players also stated that they wouldn’t be participating, citing that Niantic was transparent with its decisions:

“Nope. Niantic told us what they were going to do and did it. It was communicated to use, we dont have to like it but we knew. Asking for some sort of secondary communication is ridiculous. If it bothers people that much go off and quit.”

Let’s hope Niantic will respond to the protest in a productive manner. While Niantic hasn’t addressed player concerns just yet, fans are up in arms about the developer’s decision to revert its pandemic provisions.
