Pokemon Trading Card Game Getting Pokemon Go Crossover

The Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon Go will be having a crossover this coming summer.

Announced on the official Pokemon Trading Card Game Twitter account, a new series of cards specifically based on Pokemon Go will launch later this summer. “This summer, Pokémon fans will enjoy an exciting collaboration between the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon GO with the release of a new Pokémon TCG expansion themed after the popular mobile game,” describes the pack on the Pokemon website.

A very short teaser trailer was also shown off, as well as revealing the pack art. On the pack we can see Mewtwo, Pikachu, Larvita, Blissey, Aipom, and Conkeldurr. As well as that selection of Pokemon, we can see the mobile game’s very own Professor Willow. So it’s safe to assume all of the above will get their own cards in this new series.

While this is the first series of cards to be based on Pokemon Go, it’s not the first time the game has collaborated with the TCG. A card based on Professor Willow was released as a special promotional item. It allowed you to discard your hand and draw seven more cards. Interestingly, the card had a unique serial number printed on it that allowed players to engage in special research in Pokemon Go. It’s unclear if anything like this will be in the new series of Pokemon Go cards. But it certainly would be one way to get people playing both games.
