PUBG: Battlegrounds added its first new map, Deston, since going free-to-play on Steam earlier this year.
PUBG: Battlegrounds‘ new map is here, and it’s the first one since the game went free to play earlier this year. The new map, Deston, has its own trailer released by PUBG Studios yesterday over on their official YouTube Channel which you can watch below.
“Bankrupt and ruined by a catastrophic hurricane, Deston was left to rot – what remains are hulking desalination plants, overgrown algae farms, and flooded urban sprawl. However, this does not mean the city is completely empty… now these lands serve a whole different purpose”, describes PUBG Studios as it advertises the 9th map added to the game
From the trailer, it looks like you’ll be wading through swampy terrain and traversing through a sprawling city landscape to get the one-up on your enemies.
And to make your time exploring Deston easier, PUBG Studios have made multiple additions to the game. Ascenders are now available, which are ropes dotted on the map to help you quickly ascend and descend buildings. Similar to the ziplines found in Fortnite. There are airboats which you can drive to get you across swamps and shallow water.
There are also new weapons in the form of the 012, a high-capacity shotgun, and the MP9 SMG, a new auto SMG which had a built-in Suppressor and Laser Sight.
Crafting comes to PUBG

The 18.2 update, which includes the addition of the new Deston map, is also introducing craftings to the game.
The new Workshop system will allow players to craft skins and items. The Workshop system will consist of two different crafting types, regular crafting and special crafting. You’ll need to have Hunter’s Chest or Archivist’s Chest to craft, which you can purchase through the in-game store. A key will also be required, which you can get by piecing together three key fragments in-game, or by a purchase in the in-game store.
I’m not a PUBG player, and so that sounds a tad confusing to me. But like with most video game crafting mechanics, it’ll get easier to understand with time.
The new map is free and is available to download now along with the 18.2 update.

If you’re a free-to-play player, remember that you won’t have access to Ranked Mode, or be able to create custom matches. To unlock those modes, and get access to a range of exclusive cosmetics, you’ll need to be a Battlegrounds Plus member.
