Capcom producer Peter Fabiano, who has previously worked on Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7, says that Resident Evil Village is “the best survival horror game to date”.

In Resident Evil Village, we see the return of RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters, who is brought to the village following the abduction of his daughter.
As much as I love RE7, Ethan wasn’t the most charismatic of protagonists and I think having Ethan leading the way once again in Resident Evil Village initially took many by surprise. However, it seems the team was quite attached to him.

“Concepting and planning was something going through our developers’ minds since towards the end of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard,” Fabiano told Official PlayStation Magazine [via Wccftech].
“The team grew quite attached to Ethan as a character so we knew we wanted to continue his story arc. This really helped to keep our vision on target. And since we are constantly sharing information across Resident Evil teams that really helped inform us in making what we consider the best survival horror game to date.”
It’s a bold claim, but could it be true?

Fabiano also revealed that RE Village has taken a lot of inspiration from RE4. To be fair, if you’ve been keeping up with the RE Village trailers, that inspiration should come as no surprise.
“You’ll notice we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4,” said Fabiano. “The team has put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel. There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle solving.”
