Rumour: PlayStation 5’s PS Store Will Let You Test Games Instantly

The PlayStation 5 is set to drop later this year, but we still know very little about the next-generation Sony console – especially in comparison to Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. As we wait for a full reveal of what Sony is planning, a number a of leaks and rumours have made their way online, one of which suggests the console will have the most dynamic storefront possible.

The rumour comes from Twitter user @ConsoleTime [via GameRant], whose entire account is devoted to PS5 leaks and news. The user doesn’t cite a source, so as always, take it with a pinch of salt for now.

According to the leak, the next iteration of the PlayStation Store will allow you to “browse and try every game instantly, playable within seconds, with no traditional downloading required, no waiting, before you decide to purchase the full game and download it as normal.”

If this is true, it could be one of the best features we’ve seen in console gaming in a long, long time.

Whether or not there’s any truth to this rumour – or even if something like this is actually possible within the PlayStation Store – remains to be seen. Personally, as much as I’ve love this feature to happen, it just doesn’t seem feasible. The claim of this being suitable for “every game” is where I lose my faith in the rumour, but hey, what do I know?

We’re still waiting to hear about backwards compatibility for the console. Sony has confirmed that most PS4 games will be playable on the PS5, but whether or not full backwards compatibility from the PS1 onwards can happen is still unknown.

The PlayStation 5 will be launching Holiday 2020 barring any delays, so we can probably expect a full reveal of the console within the coming months, if not weeks. Here’s hoping for an update sooner rather than later!
