Dev Responds To Rumour That Last-Gen Halo Infinite Has ‘Been Cancelled’

The LinkedIn page for a developer on Halo Infinite suggests that the last-gen version of the game may have been cancelled, but now Halo community manager John Junyszek has responded.

Pretty much since the game was announced both Microsoft and developer 343 Industries have made it quite clear that Halo Infinite will release across the family of Xbox consoles.

In fact at the time of writing this article (December 23rd), Halo Infinite is listed on the Microsoft Store to release on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

While there has been no official confirmation, even before now there have been rumours that the last-gen version of Halo Infinite might be cancelled on Xbox One.

Prior to its reveal in July of 2020 there were rumblings that the development of Halo Infinite was struggling and following its underwhelming reveal, the game was delayed until 2021.

As spotted by Pure Xbox, rumours of the Xbox One version being cancelled have built further momentum thanks to a LinkedIn profile.

The LinkedIn profile in question apparently belongs to Chad Mirshak who is the User Interface Lead on Halo Infinite.

According to details provided on the profile, he only lists working on Halo Infinite for PC and Xbox Series X|S with no mention of the Xbox One.

A screenshot of the alleged LinkedIn page was shared by a follower on Twitter saying: “Based on one of 343 Industries lead designers’ LinkedIn, it seems like Microsoft have cancelled the Xbox One and Xbox One X versions of Halo Infinite! The game is now current gen only!

A section of Mirshak’s LinkedIn apparently reads: “wrapping up Halo Infinite on Xbox Series X/S and PC”.

However, Halo community manager John Junyszek has now responded to the claims. Replying to a fan on Twitter (who has now deleted their question), Junyszek gave a firm “nope” in response to the game’s supposed cancellation, putting to bed the rumours.

However this apparent news does beg a genuine question, considering the underwhelming presentation of Halo Infinite back in July 2020: would it be best for the game to have the last-gen version cancelled so that the developers can 100% focus on current systems?
