Russian ‘Anti-Ukraine Propaganda’ Includes Copies Of The Sims 3

It seems that a copy of The Sims 3 has cropped up amongst a number of items in a raid against “Nazi Assassins” by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

A series of images, as shared by BBC’s Francis Scarr, show a collection of items seized in a raid that reportedly belonged to a group of “Nazi Assassins.” There’s some pretty typical things included in there. We can see a picture of Adolf Hitler taped to a PC speaker, some guns, forged Ukranian passports, a Nazi flag. And obviously, any committed Nazi couldn’t go without their copy of The Sims 3, complete with a couple of expansions.

but why though?

That one is definitely a bit of a head scratcher. Everything else lines up, but seeing The Sims 3 amongst other Nazi and Nazi-adjacent paraphernalia doesn’t make much sense. However, Bakhti Nishanov, who works for the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, was able to offer an explanation. “50 bucks says the Russian officers who stages this were told to have some sims (as in a sim-card) in the photos and they misunderstood and added the Sims 3 videogame,” wrote Nishanov on Twitter.

Russia’s FSB claims that this raid was them foiling an assassination attempt organised by the Ukraine against Vladimir Solovyov, a Russian state journalist generally thought of as a propagandist. Now it could just be that these assassins love The Sims 3. But it being included in photos from the Russian FSB itself paints a slightly suspicious picture.

Of course, The Sims community is used to this kind of chaotic thing.
