This month, PlayStation is celebrating 10 whole years of PlayStation Plus, offering out three free* games for Plus subscribers as a thank you. To honour the occasion, PlayStation also revealed some interesting stats, specifically regarding the most downloaded games on the service.
Of the 1000-plus games that have been released through the subscription service over the last decade, there’s naturally a few which have seen more downloads than others, and Sony has revealed the most popular.
The PS Plus titles that have seen the biggest number of downloads are Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Sonic Forces, Shadow Of The Colossus, Call Of Duty: Black Ops III and Destiny 2.
While it’s not surprising to see two CoD games make the list, it’s pretty darn baffling that the second most downloaded game in the 10 years of PS Plus is the utterly forgettable Sonic Forces. In fact, it’s pretty mind blowing – especially when you consider that PlayStation masterpieces like Uncharted have also been Plus freebies* at one point.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing bad about Sonic Forces, it’s just a very okay game, which has led to a lot of confusion on social media as to why it was so popular. Possibly because it stars Sonic the Hedgehog? Or maybe February, when it became free*, had seen a new surge in new PlayStation Plus subscribers?
it's sonic, it has more brand recognition than the vast majority of things they put out for free on ps plus

I mean, it's an okay game. Not exactly the trash heap some would have you think. If you weren't super into Sonic (or even aware of how much better the series can do), I'd wager to say you could have a fun little time snagging it off of PS Plus.

We’re not sure exactly, but hey, congratulations, Sonic!
