The release date for the highly anticipated Shenmue: The Animation series has been announced along with an awesome new trailer.
We had our first look at Shenmue: The Animation last year and it was more than enough to get fans of the series excited. At the time, we only had a vague 2022 release window. However, we now know exactly when Shenmue: The Animation will launch.
When will the Shenmue series launch?
Produced by Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, Shenmue: The Animation will launch on the respective streaming platforms from Saturday, February 5th.
Shenmue: The Animation is an adaptation of the classic SEGA Dreamcast games. By the looks of the trailer, it seems to be very faithful to its source material. It consists of 13 episodes and will dig deeper into the series’ lore.

It will be interesting to see if the animated series at some point also follows 2019s Shenmue 3. Furthermore, I wonder if it will tell a story after the events of the third game. Especially as there seems to be no new Shenmue release on the horizon.
The animation looks to be a faithful adaptation
Shenmue: The Animation sees series creator Yu Suzuki returning as executive producer with the director of One-Punch Man (Season 2), Chikara Sakurai, taking directorial duties. The adaptation will also see much of the original voice cast reprising their roles.

For those that do not subscribe to Crunchyroll, in the UK, Adult Swim content often airs on E4. Hopefully, the series will be available to watch on E4 or catch-up via All 4.
