Sonic The Hedgehog’s Supposed New Movie Design Looks A Lot Better

Sonic the Hedgehog’s live-action movie has been delayed a couple of times now thanks to some issues with Sonic’s aesthetic.

When the first trailer for the movie was revealed earlier this year the internet went into meltdown mode thanks to Sonic’s – frankly – terrifying appearance. Half human and half beast, Sonic’s first design had muscly legs, weird teeth and no gloves. He was basically all wrong and the fans weren’t happy.

Taking the best approach possible to the reaction, the team behind the movie delayed it and went back to the drawing board to totally reinvent their vision of Sonic. According to one supposed leaker on Twitter, we’ve now got our first glimpse of Sonic 2.0.

Twitter user @BestInTheGalaxy claims that this is the new Sonic we’ll be seeing in the movie, claiming that they have a friend in the industry who’s responsible for the leak.

Of course, it’s a completely unverified claim for now, but you have to admit this Sonic is looking a helluva lot better than the first.

In response to the backlash, the movie’s director Jeff Fowler tweeted his appreciation of the criticism at the time, and vowed to change Sonic’s design before the film’s release.

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes,” tweeted Fowler.

“It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie#gottafixfast”

Some time after, the movie’s producer, Tim Miller told Variety: “Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the sh*t hit the fan, I went over there and said, ‘The most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f*cked up,’’

“He’d already sent a tweet out an hour before I got there. He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen.”

Miller added, when asked if he’d seen the redesign: “in fact I have. And I think the fans will be pleased.”

Could the supposedly leaked image be the Sonic he’s referring to?

Following the change of plans, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been delayed. It’s now slated for a release date of 14 February 2020.
