Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, the first look at Amazon’s Tomb Raider

After months of speculation and a few heated fan debates, Amazon has released the first proper look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider series.

It’s a massive moment for the franchise. Since Amazon grabbed the rights and attached Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write and produce, the big question has been who could possibly step into the boots previously filled by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

The first official image gives us a grittier, more grounded Lara. Turner looks like she’s been through the wringer dirt, sweat, and a survivalist edge that works perfectly with the modern Survivor Trilogy games like Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.

Sophie Turner might be best known for the political chess of Game of Thrones, but she has the action chops from her run as Jean Grey in X-Men. More importantly, she knows how to play characters who grow from vulnerable to unstoppable.

That arc is the heartbeat of modern Tomb Raider. With Waller-Bridge’s sharp, character driven writing, we’re likely getting a Lara who is witty, messy, and very human.

Amazon is building a connected universe that will span video games, films, and this TV series. The show is expected to be the anchor, setting the tone for everything that follows.

Does this first look sell you on Turner as the Tomb Raider, or do you need to see a trailer first?
