Starfield Release Date, Platforms, Info, And More

Starfield is probably one of the most anticipated titles set to release this year. Essentially Skyrim in space, Starfield will give players a huge solar system to explore. Much like Skyrim and Fallout, Starfield will focus around a central narrative arch, with numerous side quests shooting off from that. This is Bethesda’s first new original intellectual property in over 25 years, which is likely why the general gaming community is so excited for it.

Originally announced back in 2018, Bethesda did little more than tease the logo and name of the project. Almost four years later, we still haven’t seen that much of the title. Bethesda did release a teaser trailer last year, though. The publisher revealed it at E3, showing the engine in action and unveiling story details. Starfield will take place twenty years after the Colony War. Two major factions now enjoy an uneasy peace in a solar system that spans roughly 50 light years.

Starfield’s primary protagonist can be controlled in both third and first-person, and we can expect there to be guns. Considering this is a Bethesda title, there will likely be options for melee as well. Considering Todd Howard referred to the game as “Skyrim in space,” we can likely expect some similarities. Chances are, you’ll be tasked with picking one faction over the other and your choices will change how the world develops.

When will Starfield release?

Bethesda started developing Starfield after the release of Fallout 4 in 2015, which was Bethesda’s last major release as a developer. Eager fans have still got a little while to wait, because Starfield isn’t set to release until November 11th of this year. That means the game is now just over ten months away. Considering we are yet to see any real gameplay footage, there is the potential the game could be delayed.

Likely originally planned for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Starfield is now exclusive to the latter. Microsoft confirmed the game would only release on Xbox Series SX|S after acquiring the publisher last year. Starfield will also release on PC, although there’s no word on potential store exclusivity at this point in time. A PS5 release may be a potential further down the line, but it would ultimately be Microsoft’s decision.

There aren’t currently any details on specific editions of the game. Players can currently pre-order basic editions of the game through retailers. We can probably expect more expansive iterations of Starfield the closer we get to launch. Microsoft has confirmed the game will also launch on Xbox Game Pass the same day it releases. This means players who want to try the game out before they buy it can do so on Xbox and PC.
