Super Mario Bros. movie trailer starring Chris Pratt has dropped

The Super Mario Bros. movie trailer starring Chris Pratt has dropped and it looks amazing. However, there is some division on Mario’s voice.

Earlier this year, Chris Pratt told the internet that his Mario voice would be “unlike anything you’ve heard”. So naturally, the internet was intrigued by his claim.

Would Pratt’s voice resemble the iconic Charles Martinet rendition last seen in Super Mario Odyssey or would it sound like… Chris Pratt? Well, it appears to be the latter.

Don’t get me wrong, the first teaser trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie looked incredible. We saw a hilarious Game of Thrones-inspired encounter with Bowser (Jack Black) and the Penguin King (Khary Payton).

Super Mario movie looks great!

Furthermore, the glimpse of what we saw of Mushroom Kingdom’s vista looked stunning, and Keegan-Michael Kay’s Toad was portrayed with buckets of humour.

Then the trailer ended with Luigi (Charlie Day) being chased by a horde of Dry Bone Koopa’s. All in all, the trailer was just about everything that I hoped it would be.

However, while there’s nothing wrong with the voice of Chris Pratt, saying things like Mario’s voice will be “unlike anything you’ve heard” set the bar high. Yet, his voice sounded less like Mario and more like Chris Pratt with a slight Brooklyn, New York twang.

French Mario sounds like Mario!

I never expected Pratt to clone the voice of Martinet, but I at least hoped for a slight recognisable hint of Mario. Moreover, when compared to the French version of Mario, it’s damn near perfect in my opinion. Have a listen to the French voice below and let us know what you think.

That being said, I was very impressed with the first teaser trailer and when we get to watch the full movie, I’m sure Chris Pratt’s “unlike anything you’ve heard” Mario voice will be a thing of the past.

When is the Super Mario Bros. movie release date?

The Super Mario Bros. movie will be released in cinemas on March 31st, 2023 in the UK and  April 7th in the US.
